Mass Mixer (mass mixer machine) including pharmaceutical powder mixer is designed for uniform mixing of dry and wet compounds. Mass mixer consists of a rigid fabricated structure motor, gear box, mixing drum, stirrer and tilting device. Specially designed self-adjusting sealing arrangement of unique design is provided to ensure that no black particle enters into the mixing drum. The material under mixing process can be monitoring through acrylic dust cover and its controls dusting and contaminations. The tilting device is provided to make easy the unloading of the material and easy cleaning of the mixing drum. All contact parts are made from Stainless Steel 316L, or FDA approved materials for cGMP compliance.

Mass Mixer Design
Shell: Consisting of ‘U’ trough of suitable dimensions. Construction of Stainless Steel and side plates made of mild steel. Stiffeners provide at necessary places for rigidness.
Mixing Mechanism: Paddle type blades welded to the main shaft for efficient mixing of thick heavy material. PTFE gland mechanism provided at shaft ends prevents entry of external powder into the trough and prevents leakages. Due to paddle type blades, it also called Paddle Mixer or Paddle type Blender.
Charging: Charging nozzles provided onto top cover of the machine. Hopper or Nozzle can be provided optionally for spraying of additives.
Discharge: By bottom discharge slide Iris or Butterfly valve of suitable diameter, for regulated discharge.
Drive: Consisting of suitable H.P. TEFC 3 phase ac 415v / 50 cycles motor coupled to suitable worm gear, with driving shafts mounted on suitable Plummer block.
Mounting: Mounted on suitable ISMC Section Stand, with protective covers for belts and couplings.
Material of Constructions: All contact parts in S.S. Constructions. Complete unit with S.S. cover and all surfaces polished to mirror dull finish. MS parts dull painted to smooth finish.

Working Principle of Mass Mixer
Material is charged in the mixer through nozzles or feed-hoppers mounted on the top cover of the mixer. Suppose if screw feeder is opted with mixer, then material to be load onto screw feeder and it will feed powder into mixer. Filling to be done about 70 percent of the total volume of the container. This is generally up to the level of the outer ribbon’s tip. After feeding completes then please close the top cover of the mixer and tighten the latches. Now start the machine form the control panel.
During the blending operation, the outer ribbons of the agitator interchange the material from the ends to the center while the inner ribbons transfer the material from the center to ends. Radial movement is achieved because of the rotational motion of the ribbons. The difference in the peripheral speeds of the outer and inner ribbons results in axial movement of the material along the horizontal axis of the mixer. As a result of the radial and the counter-current axial movement, homogenous blending is achieved in short time. Blending is generally performed in 15 to 20 minutes cycle time. Mixing efficiency of mass mixer depends upon particle size and its bulk density. Generally mass mixer with 95% efficiency in most of the cases. Ingredients with similar particle size and bulk densities tend to mix faster as compared to ingredients with variation in these attributes.
After mixing, material is discharged from a discharge valve located at center bottom of container. The discharge can be fitted with any of these valves like slide-gate, butterfly, flush bottom, spherical and other types depending on the application. The operation of the valves can be manual or pneumatically actuated as per requirements. Sifter can be installed at discharge of the mixer for sieving the output materials. Mass Mixers can be designed for multiple discharge ports. Unlike tumbling blenders where 100% discharge of material is achieved by gravity, in a mass mixer the material is discharged by rotation of the paddle agitator. Finished powder can be collected directly on mobile container or can discharge onto conveyor for further operations.
